Iberia Baggage Allowance: Cabin Bags and Checked Luggage

Iberia aircraft

From a few days in Madrid to a longer trip with a connection, packing for Iberia starts with checking the airline operating each flight. A booking carrying an Iberia name may include a partner flight, and the baggage rules are not always identical.

On Iberia-operated flights, Economy and Premium Economy passengers can take one cabin bag up to 56 x 40 x 25cm and 10kg, plus one personal item up to 30 x 40 x 15cm for under the seat. Business passengers can take up to 14kg, with two cabin bags on eligible long-haul journeys.

Always check the operating airline shown in your booking. An Iberia ticket can include a Vueling, LEVEL or partner flight with different baggage rules.

Iberia cabin bag: choose a case that fits

Keep your cabin case within 56 x 40 x 25cm, including wheels, handles and pockets, and within the 10kg Economy limit. Your smaller personal item needs to fit under the seat within 30 x 40 x 15cm.

For an Iberia-operated flight, choose a case that is within the published size rather than relying on a label such as cabin-friendly.

For a short stay, a cabin case can keep packing simple when it is included in your booking. Choose clothes that work together and keep the items you will use on the flight in your smaller personal bag, rather than at the bottom of the suitcase.

Measure the case with its wheels, handles and any filled pockets included. If it has an expandable section, check how opening that section changes the outside depth. A useful extra pocket at home can become a problem if it pushes a packed bag beyond the airline’s limit.

If you are travelling with different airlines on the way out and back, compare both allowances before choosing your case. Pick luggage that works for the stricter flight rather than discovering the difference on the return journey.

Packing For A Longer Trip With Iberia

The number of checked bags included depends on the route and fare. Iberia’s standard checked-bag limit is 23kg per bag, with maximum total dimensions of 158cm. Bags above 32kg are not accepted.

If you need more than your allowance, you can add baggage while booking or in Manage Your Booking. Check the operating carrier where your journey includes another airline.

Tripp recommendation: A medium suitcase can be a comfortable choice for a week away. For extended stays, browse our large suitcases, then pack to the allowance shown in your booking.

Keep the things you cannot easily replace in your cabin baggage: travel documents, medication and valuables should stay close. Weigh the hold case once everything is inside and leave a little room for the return journey. Then you can enjoy choosing the colour and style that suits your trip, knowing the practical details are covered.

Iberia Baggage FAQs

Can I take a handbag as well as my cabin bag?

Yes. Your personal item is separate from the cabin case, but must be within 30 x 40 x 15cm and fit under the seat.

Does this apply to Vueling flights?

No. Vueling-operated flights have their own rules, so follow the airline operating that flight.

Will a 40 x 30 x 20cm under-seat bag fit on Iberia?

No. Iberia’s personal-item depth is 15cm, so a bag that is 20cm deep is 5cm over. Check the full external measurements when packed, including wheels and handles.
